A Vastly Altered Ghost Rider

Marvel is spicing things up with their new reboot of Ghost Rider, part of the Marvel Now initiative which is meant to draw in new and younger readers.  Similar to how they are rebooting Ms. Marvel, Marvel is giving the reigns of the Spirit of Vengeance to a much younger character.  Robbie Reyes, the new protagonist is an urban character having grown up on the mean streets of Los Angeles which is where the new series will be set.  Setting the book in Los Angeles is welcome news to me.  I think Manhattan’s safe enough, let’s spread the super hero love around.

LA is an ugly sprawl which would be impossible for Spider-Man to swing around in, but it’s perfect for illegal street races and car chases that would be impossible in Manhattan and those types of settings will be core elements of the comic book. The new Ghost Rider doesn’t roll around on a hog anymore, this version will be able to possess any car and turn it into his fiery ride of vengeance.

I’m not always excited about comic book reboots, but I think it’s a prime time Ghost Rider got modernized.  The series needed an updating and I think Los Angeles was a great place to set it in.  I know there will be some squawking about the loss of the motorcycle, but it doesn’t bother me.  I like the art as well, check out the panels below.  I’m looking forward to checking this new series out.
