Silent War

Silent WarI was expecting so much from Silent War and I was left completely disappointed.  I’ve actually been putting off this review because I dreaded having to go back and skim through it so that I could recap it.  Let me make this very clear:

Unless you have read Decimation: Son of M you should not read this book.  Hell, unless you are an Inhumans super-fan, do not read this book.

Ok, let me break down the action in this book so that I can be done with it.

Spoiler

At the end of Decimation: Son of M Black Bolt declared war against the United States who would not give the Inhumans back their terrigen mist crystals that Quicksilver had stolen.  The Silent War begins with Gorgan and a handful of Inhumans committing a terrorist act against a crowd full of people at a theatre and openly declaring war to the US citizens via a television camera.  The Fantastic 4 confront them and then capture the attacking Inhumans.  Our government takes custody of the prisoners and begins to subject them to more terrigen mists as an experiment.  Gorgan gets even more powerful and more ugly.

The lead scientist is accidently exposed to the mists and begins to mutate into a more physically powerful version of himself.  The mists interactions with humans turns out to be fatal, but the government still exposes a squad of marines to the mists and sends them up to the moon to attack Attilan.

Meanwhile, Maximus who just happens to be Black Bolt’s brother concocts a scheme to turn Medusa against Black Bolt to release Maximus from his prison.  Meanwhile the Inhumans return to Earth a couple of times to try to regain the terrigin crystals but they are unsuccessful.

There’s a meeting with Pietro and a handful of the Inhumans and he warns them that when he travelled time he saw Attilan explode.  The Inhumans do not heed his warning and the now mutated US Marines attack Attilan and in the process they make the moon base explode with a nuclear warhead one of the humans smuggled up to the moon in her body.  Maximus then takes rulership of the remaining Inhumans while Black Bolt is left pouting in the dungeons below the destroyed Attilan.

Did I like it?  No.  Who do I recommend it for?  Only the most serious Inhuman fanboys.
